Fall In A Cup: Apple Edition

Raise a coffee mug for part two of our Fall in a Cup coffee recipes. If you aren’t a pumpkin spice fan, don't worry. We have some delightful and comforting alternatives below, so keep reading! Move over pumpkin spice and make room for the apple!

Apples are an extremely versatile fruit to work with. You can do apples with caramel, apples with cinnamon, and even apples with honey. All three of the recipes that were about to show you have a little twist on each one, that way you have plenty of different options on how to use your apple spice syrup.

Apple Spice Syrup

Speaking of apple spice syrup.... there are plenty of pre-made apple syrups to choose from but we like things a little less processed. While it may take more time and effort, this apple syrup recipe is the perfect thing to incorporate into your fall coffee routine.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of brown sugar (the darker the brown sugar, the more caramel flavor you will get)
  • 2 apples, sliced (keep in mind that the sweeter the apple, the sweeter the syrup will be)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. In a small to medium-sized saucepan pour in one cup of water, two sliced apples, one cup of brown sugar, and ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Cook all of the ingredients together on medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Once the mixture has begun to boil, lower the heat and allow the mixture to simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. After your timer is up, strain your mixture into a large bowl, and be sure to press down on the apples so all the juice comes out. (If the apples aren’t soft enough to smash, then you didn’t cook the mixture for long enough.)
  4. Allow the syrup to cool completely before using. (The longer the syrup cools the thicker it will become.)

Pro Tip:

Gala, Fiji, or Honeycrisp apples are great options to use for this syrup.

If you would like a little more spice in your syrup than just cinnamon you can add in a little nutmeg as well.

Caramel Apple Latte

If you have never had a caramel apple in the fall — you need to! There’s something about it that just screams crunchy leaves on the ground, hay rides, and cozy jackets. If you have no idea where to get a caramel apple, then just try this latte because it’s going to give you that same comfy feeling in a cup.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a small shot glass, pour in 2oz of the homemade apple spice syrup and brew a double shot of Real Good Coffee Co espresso over that.
  2. Stir the syrup and espresso together until both have been combined.
  3. In your mug of choice, drizzle the caramel sauce around the inside of the mug. Then pour the espresso/syrup mixture into the mug.
  4. Steam 6oz of your milk of choice (almond or oat would be perfect for this) until you have reached the desired amount of froth and temperature.
  5. Pour your milk into your mug to the top.
  6. Top the latte off with whipped cream and some more caramel drizzle. (If you prefer things a little less sweet then you can skip the caramel drizzle topping.)

Pro Tips:

If you want the caramel flavoring in this latte without the caramel drizzle calories — we have you covered. Instead of using our regular espresso pods for this latte, make a concentrated dose of coffee using our caramel-flavored ground coffee. All you need to do is make a smaller batch of coffee using less water and more coffee grounds to ensure the coffee is more concentrated and resembles espresso. (You will need to use more than 2oz if you decide to make it this way but you will get plenty of caramel flavor without the extra calories.)

Iced Apple Macchiato

This macchiato has quickly become a fall staple for a lot of coffee drinkers but we think you could make this even better at home.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. And as small shot glass, brew a double shot of Real Good Coffee Co. espresso.
  2. In a glass, drizzle caramel all over the inside. (Skip this step if you want less sugar.)
  3. Pour 2oz of apple spice syrup into the bottom of the glass.
  4. Fill up the glass 2/3 of the way full with your milk of choice (this should be about 6oz).
  5. Pour a scoop of ice into your glass and leave room on the top for your espresso.
  6. Pour your double shot of espresso on top of the ice and drizzle caramel on top of the espresso.
  7. Once you have a beautifully layered macchiato, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy!

Brown Sugar Apple Iced Coffee

Whether it’s hot or cold outside this fall, you can never go wrong with an iced coffee. This iced coffee has the best of both worlds as it is full of comfort and keeps you cool. Plus, this is ridiculously easy to make.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In your glass of choice, pour in 1 ½oz of apple spice syrup along with 1tbsp of brown sugar (light or dark works).
  2. Mix the two until moderately incorporated.
  3. Pour in a scoop of ice and then top off with Real Good Coffee cold brew.
  4. Add whipped cream on top if desired.
