Your Summer Frappe Guide

There is something so delicious and refreshing about a good frappe. Maybe because it’s the adult version of a milkshake or maybe it’s just because it’s THAT good. Whatever the reason may be, summer is here and frappes are a coffee staple for this season. In reality, going to your local coffee shop to buy a frappe every day just isn’t feasible. So, here are a couple of different ways to make your frappes at home, that way you never have to miss a summer day without a frosty coffee in hand.

Thankfully, frappes aren’t too complicated to make at home as long as you have your four non-negotiable base ingredients. You need coffee, milk, ice, and sweetener. As long as you have those four-ingredient then we can take on our frappe-making journey. Before you get to the recipes, let’s cover some tips and tricks to know beforehand so you are set and ready to go. First off, coffee!

Coffee

The kind of coffee that you use is important to a frappe. A lot of online recipes will tell you to use espresso, which you completely can, but the problem with espresso is that it waters down your frappe. The heat of the espresso instantly melts the ice and counteracts what you are wanting to get – that icy and slush-like consistency.

Now, if you like a watery frappe, then go ahead and use that espresso. It will still taste good regardless but the key to a good frappe is consistency. So, for us to achieve that thick slush-like texture we are going to be using Real Good Coffee cold brew for our frappe. The cold brew doesn't counteract the ice and it’s stronger in caffeine so you will be getting a good caffeine buzz and not just a sugar rush with this frappe. So go ahead and make sure that your cold brew is already pre-made and ready to go.

Milk

Milk to coffee ratio is important with a frappe. As milk and creamy as a frappe is, your coffee to milk ratio is 2:1. You will always have more coffee in your blender than milk. If you feel like you want more of a milk base and don’t always like the taste of coffee, then by all means add more milk in. Just make sure that if you are adding more milk in, then you will need to remove some of the coffee so you don’t have a watery frappe.

** Use alternative milk if regular milk isn’t your favorite! Promise, it will taste just as good.**

Ice

Here’s a little tip for you coffee lovers — when it comes to your ice, use coffee ice cubes! This will take your frappe to the next level! By using coffee ice cubes instead of regular ones, when your frappe eventually starts to melt while you drinking it, you’re going to be sipping on sweet coffee nectar instead of water from normal ice cubes. You can not go wrong with this swap!

Another important thing to note is — the amount of ice you use is important! Too much ice and your frappe will be too thick. Too little ice and it will be extremely runny and liquid.

Sweetener

The sweetener is how we change our frappes from a simple coffee frappe to a caramel, mocha, or Java chip frappe. Even if you are making a simple coffee frappe, you would even put in some sort of sugar. The sweetener you choose completely changes your frozen coffee so it’s important to get the good stuff. Whether you are making your syrups at home or buying them from the store — get the sweetener that fits your taste buds and that you will love.

Ok, now that we’ve gotten those tips out of the way, let’s get to blending!

Java Chip Frappe

You can’t go wrong with anything chocolate, you just can’t. So one of our favorite recipes for some chocolatey, frozen, goodness is the Java Chip Frappe. This frappe is so refreshing and rich and it’s a lot more simple concoct than you might think. So, grab your chocolate syrup, some Real Good Coffee cold brew, and some chocolate chips, and let’s go.

Ingredients

1 Cup of Real Good Coffee Co. Cold Brew (Medium or Dark Roast Recommended)

2 Cups of ice (Use less ice if you don’t like a thick frappe, add more if you like it thicker)

½ Cup of your milk of choice

4 Tbsp of chocolate sauce (homemade or store-bought)

4 Tbsp chocolate chips (if you want it more sweet use milk chocolate or for a less sweet taste use dark chocolate)

Whipped cream (optional)

Pro Tip: Add in a few coffee beans for an extra kick of java!

How to Make

Prepare your Real Good Coffee Co. cold brew to the recipe and have it ready to go.

Choose a glass and drizzle chocolate sauce on the inside of the cup (as little or as much as you would like.)

In a blender add your ice, cold brew, chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, and milk.

Make sure your lid is secure and blend until smooth.

When you see it has a thick texture, give it a taste test to see if it’s the thickness you prefer. If not add more ice to make it thicker or more milk/coffee to thin it.

Pour your frappe into your chocolate-covered glass and top off with whipped cream.

Sit back and enjoy!

Whipped cream (optional)

Prepare your Real Good Coffee Co. cold brew to the recipe and have it ready to go.
